Introduction

So lets start from the beginning... how I ended up here..

About 2 and a half years ago, after medical school, I decided that I wanted something new in my life. A new adventure... A new place.. not too foreign... to be on the road less traveled...hoping for new (and better) experiences...a taste of life... (didn't we all wished for that at some point of our lives..) Something I would be able to look back 30 years later and say to myself, " I'm glad I did that". So I packed my bags and set off about 1000 kilometers to live in a town formally known as Jesselton....now known to many as Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Fast forward 2 years later, at the end of my internship, we all (graduates of the medical service) had to go off to tiny districts and that is how I ended up in this town called Telupid.

Where on God's green earth is this place?

Surprisingly, if you Google it, it will show you some coordinates... and here I though it would not be on the map.. :) It a small town about 200 kilometers away east from the city of KK. Driving though the Crocker Range and the famous Mount Kinabalu.. the journey takes you deep into the hearts of Sabah. A small town in between Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan.. it is really more like a stop over town.
Population:  Probably 10,000 to 30,000 people whom are mostly involved in logging and palm oil plantation.
People:  Made up of mainly local natives known as the Dusuns and the non-locals i.e. Bugis, Timorest , etc..
Language:  Dusun, Indonesian language, Tagalog... and with me, mainly sign language and probably Malay (Sabah-nized Malay that is)
History: The name of the town originated from a famous local tree called Tapid-Apid.
And this tiny town was apart of the Sandakan-Ranau Death March during the World War II.. O_o
Which is something I only found out a minute ago... (the internet is amazing isn't it?) Never heard of the Death March?? Google it !

So there, a little bit about the place I'm in... hopefully soon, I will be posting up pictures of  where I am staying, the clinic... and maybe pictures of my room. (nothing obscene of course..duh.. its 13PG)
